LGB 2076 "Stumpy":- The Overhaul

"Stumpy Overhaul"

The LGB 2076 Tank Engine known as "Stumpy" had a failed cell in its battery (Nine x 1.2V NiMH Nominal 10.8V), which drastically reduced it running time, so a replacement was called for.

While I had it apart I decided to take the opportunity to change make some cosmetic changes to the outline making it more Australian like and less European looking.

This basically involved removing;

  • the brake hoses,
  • the raised section of the cabin roof and filling in the hole
  • the air pump,
  • relocating the headlight to the top of the boiler where the bell used to sit
  • while leaving the steam generator in place.

 New colour scheme;

 I went with a more traditional English style colour scheme for this loco.

The body and boiler were painted "Brunswick Green" with the smoke box painted black and the "buffer beam" painted red.

I picked out the boiler piping using a CD marking pen, which gave it a metallic sheen.

I picked out the boiler backhead piping using a craft silver pen with the gauges picked out in gold.

Battery Remote Control

I decided to change the Radio Control equipment to something smaller instead of the HobbyKing method I used early in the hobby (detailed in the "Original" build) and to change out the old Bachmann "white noise generator" sound card.
