0-6-0 Sugar Cane Loco from an LGB Side Rod Diesel

I converted this locomotive from a US outline locomotive to an Australian Sugar Cane diesel Loco.

US outline Side Rod Locomotive

It mostly involved a repaint and changing and adding some details.
The original loco build is described on this blog page.  LGB Side Rod Diesel

Below is a description of the changes involved.

  1. Removed front all the US style pieces from the buffer beams.
  2. Removed the exhaust stack and replace it with a scratch built exhaust pipe with muffler
  3. Repainted the chassis green
  4. Repainted the bonnet and cab yellow
  5. Repainted side rods and counterweights plus buffer beams red.
  6. Added Air-Con units made from cut down Bachmann "Big Hauler" headlights and fly screen.
  7. Weathered with a black wash, I went a bit heavy handed originally but have now removed a large amount to give a more toned down subtle weathering.
