Sugar Cane "Whole Stick" Wagons

I built some "Whole Stick" wagons to put behind my converted LGB Stainz.  Sugar Cane Tank Engine from an LGB Stainz page

This is the inspiration the result is shown below.

They were made by cutting down some wagon kits that I bought from Sri Lanka by an ebay seller "Pasidump", they come pre-stained a mahogany colour but I soaked then on laundry bleach to bring them back to bare wood.

The uprights cross beams are small pieces of Merbau timber and craft sticks (aka paddle pop sticks in Aust)

Before staining (bleached)

I then stained them with a wash of burnt and raw umber mixed with some black.

After staining/weathering

Comparison of before and after weathering

I made some removable loads out of raffia.

The raffia was weathered with a dark wash to simulate burnt sugar cane.
